Trade and friendship between Thailand and Denmark began over 400 years ago, when the first Danish trade ships arrived in Siam. Since then, the relations between our two nations have further prospered and developed.

Over the centuries, Danes have made significant contributions to the development of modern Thailand. There are many examples within infrastructure, where Danish businesses collaborated with Thailand to develop the first tramway, large parts of the railway system, bridges, and highways. However, Danish footprints are also evident in other areas, such as farming (Thai-Denmark milk), marine biology, education, health, environment, and energy.

Today, our cooperation is stronger than ever, with more than 100 Danish companies operating in Thailand. Danish citizens simply have a love for the “Land of the Smiles". Studies have shown that Bangkok consistently ranks among the top three most popular travel destinations each year. Another interesting fact about our two countries is that the most common marriage in Denmark besides Danish-Danish couples actually is Danish-Thai couples.

And the journey continues. The potential for expanded commercial and political relations between our two nations are significant, especially within energy, food, health, shipping, biodiversity and Thailand’s goal of implementing a bio-circular-economy. Denmark is at the forefront of sustainable solutions, and through continued friendship and collaboration, Thailand and Denmark are on an exciting path toward achieving a more prosperous and sustainable future together.
